Artist Statement

As a longtime creative with a deep appreciation for the natural world around her, Anna has been photographing birds as a hobby for more than 10 years. During the pandemic, she began to truly develop her craft as a means to get outside and find some much needed inspiration. Since her time studying photography at the Frostic School of Art in Kalamazoo and working in multiple fine art gallery spaces, her creative process has expanded from simply photographing images of wildlife as it appears, to transforming scenes that are born from nature into ethereal, fine art pieces. She relies on unique compositions, editing techniques, a keen eye for noticing detail, patience, and reverence for the natural world to achieve these images.

“My craft requires high levels of patience and perseverance. I have learned in my time photographing birds as my primary subject, that more often than not, the birds you go out to seek for photos are not always quite as cooperative as you would hope! But that is the way of nature.

Having that knowledge and carrying that respect with me is incredibly important for creating art that works so closely with wildlife. My ability to sit silently, watch, and wait has been fine tuned through my choice in subject matter. In a world so driven by immediate productivity and instant gratification, my process allows me to slow down and be connected with nature in a way that humans are inherently supposed to be. This grounding experience is something I cherish very greatly”
